So after attending the Taste of Dubai we decided to try and find the Bastakiya area and explore Old Dubai. Well for once we didn’t get lost in Dubai and found the area but we of course could not find a parking space! So we drove up the creek area until we found parking and decided if we couldn’t walk to the Bastakiya area we could at least enjoy a stroll along the creek. Well the area along the creek is really great to explore – it feels like a whole different city and has a completely different vibe from the rest of the city. I wish we had found this before my mother and brother came to visit because they would have loved it!!! The creek, the boats, and the souk! The two souks we had been two are completely touristy but this souk has amazing prices, you can barter, and it is what one would expect from a souk in the UAE. Scott and I personally thought that this area is underrated. We also saw that you can take an abra across the water for a few dirhams and visit the spice and gold souk – we did not have time for this because it was getting dark but we had a real adventure and enjoyed every minute of our new Dubai discovery . . .
After enjoying the creek, the boats, and the setting sun we found ourselves by the Bastakiya area! So as the evening sun fell behind the boats and into the creek, we spent our last few fading moments wandering the restored district of Old Dubai . . .
After walking back up the creek we drove over to the Jumeirah area for dinner at Shakespeare and Co and coffee dessert at my favorite place – Tim Hortons . . .
We had a great weekend and will definately be returning to this area of Dubai again!
