Sorry I have not posted in almost a week now!!! Time has really gotten away with me this week. Starting on Thursday the schools are off for the Eid holiday and so everyone is preparing for it! Eid Al Adha is the holiday that celebrate all of those who have gone to Mekkah to complete Hajj. It also honors the sacrifice Ibrahim almost made of his son before God provided ram in his sons place. During school this week the students have recreated Mekkah in the atrium and have given demonstrations about what one does on Hajj and the importance of the Eid holiday. During this time Scott and I will be going to Muscat, Oman for three days and cannot wait. Muscat is on the coast five hours from Al Ain and we look forward to being away from the sand and in the water for a while. So needless to say we have been busy planning and preparing for that. We hope to kayak in the gulf of Oman and enjoy the view of the waters from our balcony! But, back to all of the things I have forgotten to fill you in on over the last week . . .

Scott and I really enjoyed the Abu Dhabi Film Festival the first day we went and decided to go back for the last night. We bought two tickets to the final screenings of the short film competitions. It was really amazing to see so many films from all over the world in a span of about four hours. Again we were able to meet some of the directors. The man to the left directed a movie in Ethiopia about street kids called “The Hidden Smile” and it was his movie that won the documentary short film competition. The woman in the middle directed a movie that was all about Algeria and woman and the political atmosphere there – very deep. The man to the right is from France and his movie was all about youth. Again it was great to see these movies and then hear what the directors wanted and how they filmed and what their challenges were. After the festival was had a nice light dinner at a French restaurant called “La Brioche” – it had amazing fresh sandwiches and salad along with amazing cappuccinos! Since we were in Abu Dhabi and are still in need of some furniture, we decided to make a stop at Ikea before coming home and we got some great purchases:

We got two desk chairs, and a file cabinet – our office is coming together piece by piece . . .

We also got bedside tables for our bedroom. And my favorite purchase was the caddy we got for our kitchen:

Now we have counter space and storage! Thank you Ikea! More on this past week tomorrow – Masalaama . . .
